Opelika man arrested for burglary, theft of property

AUBURN, Ala. - On Jan. 20, 2026, Auburn Police, with assistance from the Opelika Police Department, arrested Bernard Alexander Sellers, age 54, from Opelika, Alabama, charging him with burglary third degree and theft of property third degree.

The arrest stems from Auburn Police receiving a call reporting a burglary at a business located in the 1900 block of East Samford Avenue on Jan. 19. Officers met with a representative of the business who reported that a suspect made entry into the business while it was closed and stole multiple items.

Bernard Sellers was developed as a suspect. On Jan. 20, Auburn Police, assisted by the Opelika Police Department, located Sellers. During the investigation, stolen property was recovered, and Sellers was arrested for charges associated with the Burglary.

Sellers was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $4,500 bond.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
